THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE

Each student-athlete must have a completed before participation in tryouts, practice, or game: 

  • Athlete’s Health Record (all 3 pages)
  • Tennessee State Concussion Law “Information & Signature Form”
  • TN State Sudden Cardiac Law “Information & Signature Form”

Coaches must complete on file:

  • Current CPR Certification
  • NFHS Concussion in Sports & Tennessee State Concussion Law “Information & Signature Form” and course certificate
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest & TN State Sudden Cardiac Law “Information & Signature Form” and course certificate
  • NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Course *new requirement 2022
  • Emergency Action Plan *new requirement 2022
  • NFHS Bullying, Hazing, and Inappropriate Behaviors course *23-24 requirement

Coaches also must review and be familiar all TSSAA Health & Safety Policies.

BASKETBALL SCHEDULE

The maximum number of games allowed by TSSAA is 24. MSCIAA teams must save one game for the possibility of playing in the MSCIAA Championship. This means the maximum games for MSCIAA teams is 23.

TSSAA Hall of Champions games are allowed-Max two dates.  All HOC games must be approved by the TSSAA. 

TSSAA max number of tournaments is 2 with each tournament counting as two games.

 All games must be turned in to the MSCIAA and reflected on the MSCIAA master schedule available at www.msciaa.org

 

TICKET PRICE

$8.00 (Tickets may be pre-sold at a lesser price at the discretion of the host principal.)

  • For auditing purposes anyone entering the game must have a ticket or MSCS ID badge, administrators or retirees I.D. Badge, or TSSAA pass. Boosters, Concession workers and any other personnel must have a ticket from your school to enter the game.
  • Teams, coaching staff, auxiliary staff i.e. managers, ball boys etc… should enter the gym together and in team uniform.

 

TIME OF GAMES

Varsity girls will begin at 6:00pm.  Varsity boys will begin at 7:30pm.  All games will start at the designated time unless otherwise indicated in writing through the MSCIAA. It is the responsibility of the host team to notify MSCIAA, MSCS security, and the assigning official when changes in start times are needed. To make a game change (dates and/or start times) contact the MSCIAA office at minimum 3 days prior to the scheduled event. 

 

JUNIOR VARSITY/FRESHMAN

If you want to participate in JV/Freshman basketball, you will be responsible for creating your schedule, official assignments, security etc.  All officials must pass a background check (TSSAA officials have passed a background check). 

 

INCLEMENT WEATHER

If a scheduled game is cancelled due to schools closing, please wait instructions from the MSCIAA office.  If schools are closed on the day of a meeting, the meeting will be rescheduled by the MSCIAA office. Schools will be notified of the rescheduled date.  When school is closed due to inclement weather, all games, practices, and team events are cancelled. 

In the event that all games are cancelled by the district due to weather, MSCIAA will reschedule district games (in which both schools are MSCIAA schools) for the next available day (usually the following Wednesday)
Schools are responsible for the rescheduling of non-league games postponed due to weather.
Schools are also responsible for the rescheduling of district games against non-MSCIAA schools.

 

SECURITY PERSONNEL

Security personnel will be assigned to high school games upon written request of the school principals involved. The written request must be submitted to the MSCS Security Division office one week prior to the contest. The security personnel will report and be responsible to the principal who made the request. Security must be notified of any changes in the schedule. Schools hosting classics, tournaments, etc…must notify security, MSCS security (416-5773). Saturday tournaments/classics must be in Facilitron.

 

SCORING AND TIMING

Home teams must provide responsible adults to be in charge of scoring and timing at each scheduled game.

PLEASE NOTE: High Schools not providing responsible adults for scoring and timing will FORFEIT the game and will not be reimbursed for paying the officials

All scores must be recorded in rschooltoday by noon following each contest.

Reporting scores is the responsibility of the home team, but away teams should record scores if the home teams fails to do so. 

ASSIGNING OFFICIALS FEES

Officials should call the home school’s financial secretary by noon on the day of the game. If they fail to do so, please call the assigning agent immediately!  Also, all coaches will be assigned an Arbiter login and will be able to check officials’ assignments for every game. 

PLEASE NOTE: Shelby Metro Basketball Association officials must be used for all high school games.

The official’s assigning agent is Bill Arata (phone: (901) 857-6801). Official’s fees are negotiated by the TSSAA and are as follows:  All MSCIAA Schools will be using three officials for all games unless availability limits to two officials.

Student-athletes (Varsity, Junior Varsity, & Freshman Teams) must be listed on their school’s TSSAA eligibility roster.

 

MSCIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

All schools will save 1 game for the MSCIAA Championship. The head coach or a school representative must be present for the championship meeting to be held February 8th at 4:00 pm on Teams.  Last date for games to count for the MSCIAA Championship is February 7th

Class A Championship:  #1 District 15A vs. #1 District 16A
Class AA Championship:  #1 District 15AA vs. #1 District 16AA

Class AAA Championship:  District 14AA, District 15AA, District 16AA

            AAA tie break

            1st the best district record from 14AAA, 15AAA, and 16AAA will be selected

            2nd next Head to Head record will be used to determine a winner

            3rd if no head to head record exists or if there is a tie, records against all teams in their class

            4th if there is a tie, then overall record

            5th if there still is a tie, then coin toss

Class AAAA Championships: #1 District 15AAAA vs. #1 District 16AAAA

MSCIAA Championship Tie Breaking Procedure

             a. Head-to-Head competition in league play. If teams have played each other during the season, the outcome of these games will resolve the tie.

b. If a tie remains after (a), the tiebreaker will be determined by how teams have done against the next highest seeded teams in their respective league: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.

c. If the tie remains after (a) and (b), the overall win-loss record against teams within that classification will be used to break the tie. This only includes games played in your classification with member teams of TSSAA.

d. If the tie remains after (a), (b), and (c), the best overall record will be used to break the tie. The best overall record includes games and tournaments with all teams associated with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Scheduled games must be on an Official MSCIAA Schedule to count for championship purposes.

e. If a tie remains, a coin will be tossed. A draw will be used to determine who will call the coin toss
